Old Monk

Here's a photo of an old monk as he ascends stairs. He has left his crutch and walking stick at the bottom of the stairs. For me, this was a rather poignant scene as he hobbled up the stairs. Taken with an Olympus E-M1 and 12-40 lens at 1/400, f/4 and ISO 250. Richard

Wow, wonderful old worn steps. They along with the old monk climbing without his assistants gives a sense of reverence for the location and class for the old monk. At first I was disappointed there was not a facial view, but the photos tells a better story this way.

I like the story this image tells with the crutches beside the stairs.  I also like the contrast between the monks bright colored clothing and the drabber colors that surround him.  Compositionally, it feels a bit centered, though the diagonal stairs offsets this somewhat.

Ed and Tony: thanks for your comments. I shot the monk lower in the frame, but didn't like the way the black bordered opening showed behind the monk's body. In this frame, he is against a clean background which I preferred. Richard
