Beam Me Up

Another from a windy evening in Utah that provided an extended and varying cloud show. Gary may have been sipping a cold malted beverage by this point, have exhausted his shutter finger.

Please have a look at the large version as the darker areas seem to block up badly in the small. There is a lot of visible detail in there on the master file that will easily show on a print.

Dreamy looking processing, the dark areas are fine, an attractive view.

Beautiful tones in the foreground and into the valley.  I like how the beam is there but it's pretty subtle.  This must be an awesome print.

I like the comp, but this feels underexposed by around a stop.  Was that intentional?

Wonderful image, Harley. Excellent composition with beautiful light and colors. Those clouds worked out great for you and the large version is really nice to view. Does look like it would make a wonderful print.

IMO, this is one of your best recent images. It speaks medium format better than most D810 images I see at NPN. This has a classic landscape look to it. It's an understated nuanced impression of a desert landscape. To be honest I'm not that crazy about the  'beam' but it's fine. That dark cloud is an enigma, one that arouses interest because it looks alien. The gentle yet varied colors are great. The fact that the features of the land mimic the clouds works well. You could've called this 'Clouds Above and Below'. This is refreshingly different from currently popular Utah landscapes where the clouds scream at you.

Your usual great comp, but the dark moodiness makes this very special. I think there is a dust spot above the right cloud on the top clouds.  Or maybe it's just my tired old eyes and monitor.

Love your composition Harley, with the entered cloud together with the gunsight-like rock formation in the foreground which points the eye back to the patterns and textures in the far landscape, the strip of clouds.  The sunbeam is certainly an added bonus that also helps to tie the composition together.  The larger image is a must see, hinting at what a large print of this must look like.  Fantastic work.

You managed to catch that incredible light display very nicely H.  I'm appalled that you would suggest that I would be enjoying an adult beverage at this early hour laugh

That cloud up top and the formations below create a very surreal sense here, Harley.  There are so many subtle features in this.  I'm sure a large print would be gorgeous.

Another gorgeous image, Harley. Wonderful light on the foreground rocks to go with everything else.

I have found that one advantage of a remote shutter is the ability to continue making pictures while imbibing above-mentioned adult malt beverages.
