I was wandering around Utah a couple of weeks ago and was lucky enough to stumble into some decent light.
Please see the large view.

Yes, wonderful dramatic light. I've seen this shot a few times recently and this is a nice variation. I might like to see a little more in the shadows, but even as it is, a gorgeous scene. And very unearthly!

Hi, Haley,
Wonderful lighting and exposure! For me, I'd like to see it cropped tighter if the rays of sun is your focal point. Even though the details and lighting are great throughout, I find my eyes wandering everywhere because there is so much negative space, detailed negative space, but still no landing spot or leading lines for my eys to follow. Don't get me wrong, I really like this image a lot or I wouldn't have said anything, but it may need a bit of a tweak, imho.
Thanks for posting an area I've never been to in person...it's amazing!

Nice rays and spotlighting on the badlands underneath. I might be tempted to try brightening the image some. The thin band of orange in the sky makes a nice color contrast with the blues of the badlands.

Remarkably well handled high dynamic range subject. My immediate emotional reaction to this was that it felt like a moonlit restless sea in the North Atlantic or somewhere. There's that same heaving, brooding sense to it with distant sunlight. The land has that same luminosity that sea water has under that light condition and that sense of restless movement. I find the exposure right on for the type of mood you're after. The large version is really better. The composition is good IMO. There's little to suggest to improve. The right half of the topmost cloud has little to no tonal variability and it also seems just a tad dark. I wonder if lightening it up just a tad could add more cloud like texture to it. Other than that there is some clipping in the sunlight. I don't know how you feel about that but you could clone that in if you thought it was worth the effort. The patch of sunlight on the ground is really marvelous in the large version. A most excellent image, Harley.

....... stumble into some decent light.
Excellent, Harley. No change for me I'm enjoying the surreal light show here. As dark as the scene was there is perfect lighting to provide the understood terrain detail.
btw: headed to Escalante next week.......

Great light + the dark foreground adds mystery to pull me in. The "breaking wave" requires a double take. Nice image.

I wouldn't touch a thing. Excellent work. Igor has some interesting thoughts about a restless sea.

I love the composition and the flowing lines in the foreground. You might consider adding a little more luminosity to the lighter tones in the foreground so that the structures there pop a little more. I really like the band of sunlight and the rays. The brooding clouds add a fine sense of drama. Nicely done, sir!

Most excellent image, Harley ! Amazing how much texture you've got in the darks of the landscape - and I really like the off centre placing of the sunlight, which somehow emphasizes the vastness of the scene.

Wow, Harley, one stunning image. The sunbeams are gorgeous but set amongst the almost alien, seemingly barren landscape makes this incredible. Was going to suggest upping the luminosity of the brigher ridges of the landscape evr so slightly but then looked at the larger image amd decided that was comletely unnecessary. The larger image is fantastic and I wouldn't change a thing.

Very strong composition. The shadows feel a bit dark. There seems to be some great textures lurking in them.
