Bow Lake, Banff NP
Another from my morning at Bow Lake. The night before was the first significant snowfall leaving a dusting of fresh powder on some of the lower elevations. I liked the early dawn light hitting the snow on the left side mountain. I'm conflicted though over the large bright reflection of the glacier above the lake. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated.>=))>

Hi Bill, I can see what you mean about this image - somehow the compsition doesn't seem to come together quite like the last image. The light area per say is not a problem - its just that it signals that there was something to see that has been 'cut out' of the top of the image. In the same sense the lighter snow covered slope top left feels 'chopped' slightly as well.  Somehow (my feel) would be that a slightly shorter lens perhaps with a square 50/50 (wrt the shoreline) compositon (thereby bringing the 'missing' glacier into the composition, might have been more pleasing - To me the reflections lack enough detail to be the main focus (2/3rds) of the image.

Mark: Sometimes it takes another set of eyes to see what one is seeking. Your critique resonates with me and I appreciate it. I have another comp that pretty well addresses everything you pointed out. I'll try to post that one in the coming days. Thanks for taking the time to look and make such good suggestions.>=))>

Bill, I agree with Mark's assessment. I am looking forward to your next post from Bow Lake. I do like the soft light and color on the hills on the right.

I like this, Bill, even more than the previous reflection image. I am drawn to the soft light on the hillside, and I like the comp.

The sweep of the erosion surfaces and their reflections create a fine sense of movement here, Bill.  I also really like the subtle color shift across the view.  You could burn in the brightest reflection a bit to reduce it's impact, but it feels like it belongs.
