Same flower, but a slightly different composition.  Thanks, Nathan for the idea about the edges.  I'll have to pay more attention to them.  I think they worked out better in this one, though just a hair more room on the bottom would probably have been better.

5DIII, 180 mm f/3.5L macro, tripod and cable release, f/22, 1/10, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering (I need to just go to manual exposure on these).  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Full frame.  Taken October 1st at 2:39 PM.  Light from an adjacent window.

Comments and criticisms are very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Beautiful, Dennis. I like this version even better than the previous. I like that there's a bit more room. Beautiful light and color. No nits from me. A top notch dahlia image. devil

Really, REALLY nice, Dennis. Great tones, light, color.  I think the cropping looks great.  I also like this rotated 90 degrees to the right.  Excellent work!!

Beautiful photo and splendid work. The colors are a pleasure for the eyes. I have also a tree-dimensional feeling. I can't see any nit.

Hi Dennis, a much more pleasing composition - really like this version - In this one i think the edges are ok - the 'problem' with a Dahlia is that as soon as you move to bring one petal completely into the frame another becomes a candidate that is just being cut ;-) ... colour, lighting and PP are spot on!

Good shot! No nits, but I do agree with your comment about manual focus. You are on a tripod with cable release, why not focus manually. It gives you the precision for shots like these that Autofocus won't.

I'm loving all the dahlia images being posted - I miss them - haven't found any in our new town yet.
This is a beauty - congrats on the WP!
