I really didn't photograph this guy insice one of those snow globes - but it looks like it.  Along the Madison River in Yellowstone last week.

Sony a77, Minolta 600 f4.

It almost looks like a prehistoric painting on a cave wall.  Very neat effect.

I think there are lots of ways you could have gone with this, Pete.  I'm not sure which would be best.  Some, I'm sure, would like to see more room in front of the elk rather than behind.  I don't mind this placement, especially with such an interesting background pattern created by the deadfall.  The foreground grass also makes for a nice pattern and texture, but for me there may be too much of it, pulling away from the upper half of the image.

Again, this type of abstract is something that could be rendered many different ways, depending on one's mood.  Nice job seeing the potential here.

This is a cool image. My first take was that this was a photo of an ancient wall painting in a cave somewhere in the south of France. I really like this. Well done,

Great effect, Pete.  I am frequently impressed with the creativity of your compositions.  Here, I would not go so far as to wish for an expanse in front, but I think a centered elk would have been stellar, adding even more impact to the background diagonals.  Thanks for sharing this one, which is a pleasure to view.  Note to others:  view large!

Pete I really like this. My initial thought was faded petroglyph. Love the snow and the apparent impact it is having on the bull. Lots of interesting things going on in this.

Pete: This is a unique capture in the best sense. The only thing I'd consider would be to tone down the grasses in front just a bit or even crop the foreground row of grasses. Congrats! Richard

VERY cool!  The elk looks like he is really struggling against the wind.
Wonderful effect - congrats on the fine WP!
