I have one more image from the Palouse that I decided not to share in my series earlier this summer.  I'm still undecided about whether it has enough interest.  I'm a fool for green grass and sky, but maybe that's not enough?

Let me know what you think.  If you have suggestions (included give it 2-3 stars and move on), please let me know.

To be honest, Marylynne, I like this a lot. It's an eye-catching, clever, and original Palouse image. The foreground grass is very cool, and the sky is really nice as well. I could see this as a calm, soothing print. So, is this the result of merged images? And how did you find a place where you were able to get so low and get such a clean and unobstructed look at the strip of grass? This image really has me scratching my head, which is a good thing. devil

I think this perfectly fine. I would brighten the brights a bit though.

Thanks, everyone.  I tweaked the highlights a tish, and I played a little with the color temp of the sky.  I still don't have my monitor calibrated, but it felt a little steel-gray to me.  I've also been working more in black and white, so I feel a little off the color game for a variety of reasons.

Scott: Some of the dirt roads are deeply incised from years of farm traffic, so you can be standing on the road and have the ground adjacent to the road mid-thigh or waist high.  Below this reply I'll post a shot from earlier this spring (not in gallery, so it disappeared) of one of these roads (might not be the same road, but there were a lot of them).

Edit: oh, and it is a single image processed in LR.

It sure is enough for me! It's a little different perspective and I think it works great. The colors are very nice and that sky worked out perfectly for my taste. A very peaceful and calming feel comes from this image.
Edit: I see the repost now and I like that even more. Very nice work on that!

And here is a shot of our rented Sprinter RV on one of these deeply incised roads.

This is great! And I much prefer the repost. If you do stock agency postings, this one would have great potential. Excellent!

Somehow I feel like I'm about to enter the miniature world of grass hoppers and ants. I find it interesting in a kind of obscure sort of way.

I think this is really interesting. The layers of tonality, shape and color are quite unique. I agree that the brights could be brought up a little bit. If you do, do not go to far--the soft light here really adds to the mood. Well seen, and nicely done.

This is awesome, Marylynne.  Love the low perspective and the subtle light on the greens.  Great sky to compliment. I think the repost is an improvement.  I am surprised that you didn't present this in B/W.  Might be fun.

Here is a BW conversion of the same image.  Silver Efex and LR.  Let me know what you think of that.

Thanks for the suggestion, Gary.

This has a light airy feel. I like it more every time I look at it.  Temptation may be to clone out some of the small dark grey clouds on the right side

Although I like the b/w,  the color is winning with me.

Thanks folks. I settled on the color version as well, with a bit more highlight and a tish more saturation.  Couldn't do it without you all, as usual.

The difference between color and B&W is remarkable to me. When you said you were converting the image I expected a B&W version of the subject. But in fact they are completely different images. As such I can't see how one can say that one is better than the other. The color image is about peace, balance, and tranquility. The B&W lacks this feeling due to that dramatic sky. The sky makes that image. I'm on the fence about the layer of detailed grass in the front, though. I don't think it helps with either the drama or the peace. It is somewhat intriguing though.

To be honest, I like both images. At first I thought the B&W was much better. Than I went back and liked the feeling of color. A few minutes passed and another look and 'but the B&W is clearly better'. And so on and so forth.
