Brook Cascades

Here is another image that I captured along a trail in Rocky Mountain National Park.  In many ways this image is a testimony to the value of the critiques here on NPN.  On a previous image that I had posted from the Smokies I had received comments about using a faster shutter speed to retain the detail and texture in the water in these kind of shots.  Mindful of this, I have been able to apply this recommendation on many of my shots since then.  I experimented with various shutter speeds and found that 1/13 sec produced the right amount of blur to convey the motion of the water while still retaining detail and texture. So thank you to everyone who has commented on my images!

All comments and critiques are welcome.

Overcast conditions with rain having fallen overnight
21mm
f8 @ 1/13 sec.
ISO 640 (for desired shutter speed)

Processing:
RAW Capture
Perspective control and selective cloning of dead pine branches
Curves adjustments using luminosity mask selections to increase midtone contrast and brighten the shadow areas
Vibrance adjustment using Tony Kuyper's Focused Vibrance Mask action
Slight crop from full frame to remove a distracting element.

Refreshing image, Brian.  I would crop a bit more off the left to eliminate the partial leaves and bright stem at the bottom.  Additionally, there is a white spot between the boulders that I would remove.  Other than that, very nice.

Brian, This looks great! I like this view very much and the water does look really nice. Nice contrast between it and the surrounding darker rocks and the green in the leaves and trees. I agree with Gary that a small crop off the left edge just past that branch in the bottom corner is an improvement. Nice work on this!

The water detail looks wonderfully Brian.  I too agree with the slight crop.

Very nice, Bryan. Pretty scene, and well composed/taken. The cascade is nicely framed and exposed, and I like your chosen ss. Personally, I find the green leaves in the LRC just a bit bright, and I would burn that area, but hardly worth mentioning.

This is very nice Brian. I like the diagonal of the water running across the image. I think the shutter speed is just fine. You have enough texture in the water to make it interesting. I generally find that I will do between a fifth of a second to a 10th of a second and see which looks best. A lot also depends upon the volume of water running through the cataract. So there are no set rules all the time. And there are things you can do in post processing to give more texture to the water.  Rocky Mount National Park is a wonderful spot.
