"In the feathers, please."  This Sharpshinned Hawk spent quite a bit of time on various perches in our backyard back in September of 2013 when it was a pretty regular visitor.  On this occasion it chose to spend some time on the shepherd's crook supporting one of our feeders.

1DIV, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, handheld (if I recall correctly, I was on the back porch bracing the camera against the door frame), f/8, 1/640, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Less than 1 degree of straightening, then cropped to a 4x5 vertical.  Final size before prepping for web was 12.6 MP.  Taken September 16, 2013 at 6:14 PM.

Comments and criticisms are most welcome.

Thanks,

Hi Dennis,

A nice look at an immature sharpy.  I like reddish brown feather edgings and the spot of blood on the cere suggests that he's hanging around for seconds........................................Jim

Nice and sharp, great detail and colors.  The BG works well.  Thanks for sharing.

Dennis, a fine look at this sharpy.  The yellow eye pops very well plus you've got good details in the feathers and a fine clean background.
