The Off Season..

Portland Japanese Garden Maple (the "one"), taken last week in the most unusual angle I could get within the rules. I had never photographed it before because it can be hard to get "in season" due to crowds.

14mm, f11, 1/4 sec., D610

Large version kind of a "must" for this one.

The Rokinon is back in good service, Dan.  Really sweet image.  Love the canopy of this maple. Outstanding!

This tree never fails to elicit oohs and ahs from me no matter what time of year. It's on my bucket list. That canopy is stunningly magnificent. It's how all trees should be.

This is lovely, Dan.  It's a very unique take, both the time of year and the perspective.  I often see this kind of shot in a grove of fir or redwood, but getting under this maple takes some real, um, flexibility.  The sky is well exposed too, which must have been a real challenge.  Nice work overall.

Nice to see the green version for a change. This is beautiful and would make a challenging jigsaw puzzle!
I'm curious about the 14mm lens. There's distortion at the upper corners and left side and I wonder if there is a way to correct for that? Or is correction even needed?

Wow, Dan, the detail in the large version is fantastic. I also like the way this "off season" view shows off the tree's form. And I like the beautiful backlighting.

Cool spot!  Looks just a bit dark imo but I know how tricky these are to prcoess.  Nice stuff!

I can see how this would be a difficult shot but I really like the angle your have chosen with the branches spreading out across the frame.  Just enough blue from the sky to compliment the greens so this works for me, the larger image looks great!

This is an outstanding abstract, Dan.  There's a great sense of flow as the branches get smaller and smaller plus lovely gentle colors in the leaves and sky.  Very well seen and presented.

This is a real gem, Dan.  The patches of blue sky are nice.  Looks a bit like impressionism and something Jackson Pollack might have painted.  Print it big and frame it devil

Dan, I like how the dark branches radiate outward. I feel the brighter yellow green towards the edges enhances this outward radial effect.

Dan, you framed this wonderful composition in a convincing way to my eye. Great dynamics and a lot to explore for me.
