Afterglow

I just returned from a brief trip into the high Sierra backcountry. Typical cloudless blue bird skies limited shooting time to just before and after sunrise/sunset but I was able to come up with a few keepers nonetheless. Comments and critiques appreciated.

Michael stole my thoughts on this fine image, Dave, so I'll second what he said about the well crafted comp. Well done.

The foreground lines suck you into the image! Lovely comp. An interesting take of this would be if you have a twilight image where you could have stars reflecting in the water. :)

The fore rocks are perfect in this alpine reflection beauty, Dave.  I like the understated colors and I'm sure you could push them quite a bit more.  Could make a very cool monochrome if you were so inclined.  There are a couple of dust bunnies left center that I'd remove.  Real nice image. Beautiful lake.

My  first thought was to push the color a bit until I sat back to see the understated beauty of a great comp.
Well done.

Neat composition and the pastel tones make for a sweet mellow feel.

The FG rocks and distant peaks compliment beautifully. The cloudless conditions can make it difficult.  I think you made the most of what you had, maybe a BW conversion would be worth it.I would think you must have had some intense colors on the peaks prior to sunset from this location.  I was in Dusy a couple of years back and was treated to 2 hail storms in 2 nights, but that was in Sept.  Looks like there is not much snow there for this early in the season.  Bishop Pass was pretty clear I guess? Your careful placement of the reflection is a nice touch.  A beautiful place.

This is a sweet composition and is nicely understated. I might be inclined to experiment with B&W on this one?

Nice imaging, Dave.  It can be quite brutal up there photographically.  Looks like Isocolese Peak to me.

The pastels in the scene have created a lovely subdued mood to this image, Dave. I also like your careful placement of the FG rocks with the reflections of the peaks. I could also see this working as a B&W.

Thanks for the comments/input. Seems I need to learn b&W conversion...

Harry,
I've been to Dusy Basin several times previously in the late June/Early July timeframe and I would assess the snow levels as low-normal. However, the snow is melting fast. The pass still has a number of snow-covered sections but is easily passable with just trekking poles.

Very nice composition and balance to this with the rocks/reflection.  The only thing missing is some wonderful flowing clouds in the background but otherwise a wonderful shot.  I agree this would make for a wonderful B&W.  Nice job in lining this up and composing this image, way to go.

Dave, Some excellent work here setting up this composition. The understated color has a special appeal here for me. I like the quietness of this image. Nice work! I too see this working in b&w but enjoy what you have here.

This is obviously well framed for all the elements.  Nice carefully composed image, and with so many elements in the frame I actually think the plain sky is actually advantageous to emphasize all the rest.  Excellent work devil

as others have said, nice arrangement of the reflection and foreground rock.  I might bump up the saturation to bring up the blues and magenta/pink in the sky
