Western Grebe

Western grebe male (I think) chasing after another as part of courting. It was part of a group of about 15 grebes that gathered in the morning to socialize, feed and preen. This was easily the most aggressive grebe in the group, and was constantly calling and chasing others.

840mm, 1/1600s@F9, -2/3Ev, ISO500, tripod.

Thanks for looking.

Looks like it is revving up those motors. Love the intense stare of that bright red eye and the water encasing the back end of the bird as it is digging in for the chase. Great action shot Govind.

A really nice image, Govind; I like everything about this!  It is sharp, well composed, has a great background, a sense of action in the splashing water, and that wonderful red eye!  Nicely done.

Great detail in the head.  The red eye really pops. I like the water action as well and the golden background.  devil

HI Govind
Really nic e low angle shot. Your F-stop and shutter speed, really makes the photograph pop.

Great action shot Govind. I like the low pov you had and the angle of the Grebe is nice showing that turbulent water. Then there is that red eye, wow! Awesome capture!  devil

The clarity here really makes this work very nicely.  You've also got a very nice background behind the splash which makes the Grebe really stand and pop.

Excellent, Govind.  As others have mentioned the eye and water really make this image.  It may be my imagination since others haven't mentioned it, but I think from the color of the whites on the neck that there's a slight color cast to this image.

Thank you all for your feedback.

Dennis: The colors in the water are reflected in the neck, which is also a little wet. Do you see the color cast in the malar too?

Great POV with this low angle and the extended head and splashing water make this really interesting to view. Nice work Govind!

Hi Govind.  I just got back to this one ans saw your response to my comment.  Looking at it again, I think you're correct that it's just reflection from the water.

Excellent image.

Love this! You captured the intent look on the grebe's face, great water action, and nice ripples. From here, Seems to need a bit of leveling, so the ripples are straight.
Congrats on the WP!
