Hummingbird

Since Mark used his post to include backyards I guess I can use a shot or two from mine.  I looked at my files and the last image from a nearby park or preserve was May 5th-one day too earlysad.  This one is from the backyard hummingbird garden this morning.  It hadn't rained, but I had watered the garden about an hour earlier.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, Wimberley sidekick on Z1 ballhead on RRS legs, f/8, 1/1000, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering 1/3 EV (left from shooting a swallow against the sky, but it seemed to work).  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to a 6.6 MP 4x5 vertical from a horizontal original.  Taken at 6:37 this morning.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Beautiful combination of hummer and flowers set against the nice bg, Dennis. Really like the comp and pose, and even the waterdrops add to the image. devil

I love this colorful hummingbird portrait, Dennis!  It's a nice sharp capture with beautiful natural colors and setting.  Excellent control of the exposure also.  Very nice!

Beautifully done, Dennis !  The spread of flowers is so natural right through to the two blue flowers deep in the image - the eye is drawn everywhere yet the bird gives a strong focal point.

Very nicely done. Impressive techs.  Superb composition with the flowers and yet the bird still pops.

That's quite a catch, Dennis.  Love the drinking action, the environment, and the water drops.

Hi Dennis,

She's an opportunist for sure--just pull up a perch and drink away!  Pose and comp are nicely presented.......................Jim
