Acoustic Alcove

The beauty of this side canyon.in southern Utah made it worth returning to redo the shot which I had unsuccessfully attempted five years ago in more difficult light.  This year, besides better light, the experience was enhanced as a young couple filled the alcove with the music from his guitar and her opera voice.

Nikon D810, Tamron 24-70 @ 44mm, f/8, ISO 64, CPL, single exposure

Nice shot Doug...I've got to get down there. This image has a lot of depth and the processing is spot on.

Very cool image, Doug.  The experience with the music sounds wonderful.  Processing looks spot on to me, really nice.

Nice canyon image, the greens and rock work very well together. Must have been nice to have music to compose by. sad

How do you like the Tamron 24-70? I am real happy with mine.

Thanks for the comments.  I know this shallow side slot is rather dark/light limited, but what do you think of adding a few points of brightness?

Harley- I do like it for its value and VR.  Review tests had it slightly better than the original Nikon 24-70, but the new Nikon version gives up some center sharpness to gain edges.  Dunno if it would be worth the extra cost and weight to go to the new Nikon.  Sometimes I see some edge softness with the Tamron. Nits would be that the lens hood goes on and off too tightly, seemingly too much wiggle in the extended barrel, and the switch housing is too big making the 10-pin remote tight.

Doug, my 24-70 is pretty sharp throughout.   I do have the issue with the tight lens hood though. No wiggle in the barrel on mine. I just looked at pricing of the new Nikon 24-70 at B&H. Ouch!!  I would consider a switch to a Nikon if they came out with a 4.0 version, just to lighten the weight. Otherwise, I am happy to hang onto the Tamron.

I like the contrasting elements in this scene.  The lush green tree seems so out of place in that environment.  I also like the texture and shape in the foreground wall.  Nicely done!

Beautiful, Doug. Comp is really excellent and processing looks very natural. This is very minor but playing with it a bit on my monitor I think I would crop a small slice off the top.
