Dusky Grouse

A photographer friend showed me a Dusky Grouse (Dendragapus obscurus) lek in Yellowstone last week and we happened to find one male displaying.  During the hour that we photographed him, no female was seen.  (7D2, 400mm f5.6, f/9, 1/1600s, iso 200, tripod)

Yes, this is full frame, in fact I had to back up a few feet to keep him from crowding the frame.

Beautiful, Mark.  All that practice in Florida paid off.  An excellent pose and perfect exposure.  You must have been able to get pretty close if this is full frame.

Maybe he was practicing. A lot of males do that!sad Excellent work, Mark. I think I would be tempted to clone out the topmost dark line to the left of the Grouse's head.

Well done. Someday I hope to get the opportunity to photograph grouse. I know they are around in the Pacific Northwest yet my opportunity awaits me.
