Young Bald Eagle

Last spring was perhaps one of the best years I've experienced out on the Hood Canal with the number of bald eagles and inter-action between the crows, gull, herons and eagles. On this morning it was over-cast, so I decided to dedicate the entire morning to shooting the fast flying eagles and herons using small apertures and slow shutter speeds. This photo is my favorite take from that morning. I am looking forward to going back in a few days to see how the action is going to be for our tour this year.

Canon 7DII; 600mm; 1/13; f18; ISO 100; Gitzo tripod & BH-55 ballhead. Cropped tight about 50% of frame to  remove the distracting white sky.

All your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.

Good imagination and very well executed, Ken. I like images that convey motion blur and this is a great example. I like the comp and that the eye of the eagle is visible even through the blur. Nice use of the low light.

Ken:

I like the overall concept. Blurs are tough to pull off and get a result with works. I wish this image had more sharpness in the head/eyes.

A very nice result, Ken.  A pleasing amount of blur without losing the essence of the bird.

I think this is great Ken. I've experimented with blurs of birds in flight and know how hard it is to get images that work. This conveys the movement and power of the bird with still enough detail. Well done.

Looks like you had an interesting time on this. I like what you've done. Good thought process went through figuring out how to get a nice exposure that conveys motion in an abstract way and yet one can tell exactly what you're looking at.
