Columbine II

I went back out to photograph the oddly colored Columbine (the coloration is normally about that of John's post) yesterday morning while we still had cloud cover and minimal wind.  I did take some stacks that I haven't processed yet, but I also took some small-aperture shots just for fun (it makes it more challenging to find the right background).

5D3, Canon 180 mm f/3.5 Macro, tripod and cable release, f/22, 1/20, iso 400, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  A couple of pieces of debris on the petals were digitally removed.  Full frame.  Taken at 8:19 am on May 5th.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Dennis, this is a beauty !  Colors really pop, the comp is perfect and I think you handled the single exposure well.  I see by the larger image you have a little arachnid visitor lurking on the stem sad

Dennis: there is an elegance in simplicity. In this case the single bloom against a subtle and complimentary background raises the bar. Nicely seen and done. Richard

Beautiful!  Exceptional colours, tack-sharp, nice perspective and BG. Seems just a little tight on the bottom, to me.
I'd get rid of the 2 spider legs, and the few dark specks - then it's perfect!

Love the unusual color of this columbine Dennis. The DOF is perfect and the soft colors are great.

Dennis: Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect of flora photography for me is the challenge of the single capture. This one is superb both for the subject and the image crafting. 2+ thumbs up! >=))>

Congratulations, Dennis. Beautiful texture, detail and composition. Some nitpicking? Feels a bit tight at the bottom. Maybe a higher vertical dimension for a bit more space below the flower.
