Columbine
by Dennis Plank
The normal Columbine in this area is a brilliant red with a yellow center. Out on the local preserve Sunday, we ran across a number that had much more yellow in the petals. I'm not sure what's going on with that unless one of the yellow varieties accidentally got introduced. In any case, they are stunningly lovely. The breeze was blowing pretty good this morning, so I reverted to my bird photography mode-hence the odd settings.
5D3, Canon 180mm f/3.5 Macro, tripod & ball head, f/16, 1/320, iso 1600, aperture priority, pattern metering, instead of hte normal manual focus for macro work, I switched to autofocus and AIservo to try to maintain focus as the flowers bounced around-it worked fairly well. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 18.7 MP before resizing-no particular aspect ration-just what looked good to me).
Comments and criticisms are very much appreciated.
Thanks,
