Spring Rains
by Mark Seaver
I went exploring a local park on an overcast rainy day, yesterday, with a particular image in mind. Needless to say, the subject wasn't there, but the spring greens were really popping in the soft light and a good time was had by one. Here's a view along the Hawlings River, (Maryland's smallest "river") late in the day with the light fading. (5D3, 24-70 f2.8 @ 48mm, 3.2s, f/16, iso 400, tripod, cable release, and polarizer)
The blooms are Wild Azalea, blooming the earliest that I've ever seen. They typically bloom mid- to late May around here.

10 commentsBeautiful and serene image. Comp works well and the fresh green foliage and azalea blooms under the soft lighting are gorgeous. Fine as framed but I might play with taking a small crop off the bottom as I don't think it adds much and might tighten the composition..
Lovely image!

The original size version wasn't grabbing me too much... but the large view really sings and pops! The azalea is key and is showcased beautifully in the larger view. As are the spring greens throughout. Nicely composed with the stream running through bringing depth to the scene.
I might be inclined to shave a little off the bottom - say right above your signature, then part way to the bigger rock? The placement of the azalea on the far left, the stream and forest greens I think lend well to a slightly narrower crop. But that's just one man's opinion.
