Snowy Egret

Again without the feet, though if you look closely you can see just a hint of yellow in the water.  We had stopped near Rodman Dam on the Ocklawaha River to try to shoot Osprey and Cormorants flying down river after fishing in the dam spillway.  While we got a few of those shots, this bird kept working closer to the boat.  I think I may have ended up zoomed all the way out before it finally move away.  These birds always remind me of an aging hippie who won't admit he's gone bald and still lets his hair grow down the back.

7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 421 mm, hand held from boat, f/6.3, 1/800, iso 500, manual exposure.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 4x5 format with an extra touch off the bottom for composition.  Taken at 3:19 pm on March 28th.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

You're down in my neck of the woods. A long ways from Washington State! If you had thrown it a minnow or two, it would have been your friend for life!sad No nits.cool

An aging hippie? I know someone who would have said a retired professor.

This is a beautiful shot. The lighting was perfect for accentuating the curves in the bird's body, and I like the way the shallow DOF makes the bird stand out from the background.  Leaves you wondering what he's thinking about what to do next....

Dennis, I really like this shot of the egret.  Nice detail and sharpness and the bird looks to be in fine form.  Good lighting and whites handled well.  Background is a bit distracting but no big deal.

Really nice detail in the whites of the Egret Dennis. You are getting great results with that lens. I don't find the background that distracting. But I can't decide if it needs just a touch of CW rotation. wink Great shot!  And I do see the feet.

Well done, Dennis, this shot is much sharper and better than your recent one of the egret. Patches of light and dark give an interesting contrast and the ‘whites’ are better managed. The crop is a bit tight on the left side and ideally I’d like a little more canvas on that side – it is not an essential, just a suggestion.
Cheers, David.
