White Pelican & RP

This was taken just before sundown.  The pelican was so bright that with it properly exposed, the birds surroundings came out nearly featureless.  I really like this effect but would like to know what others think.  Also, I decided to center the bird near the top rather than the traditional presentation of giving the bird some room to swim in to.  I felt the symmetrical approach was more effective, but again would like to know what others think.  D300, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600, 1/2000, f7.1, ISO 800, HH.

Beautiful lighting with the whites standing out nicely against the dark water.  I like your idea with the comp and the reflection but I would crop a little bit off the bottom here and to my eye it looks like the image needs just a little clockwise rotation.  The lighting really makes the shot a winner Jim. devil

Jabba the Hutt! I like the composition well. No problem with the centering or the exposure. I do agree with Nate on the crop and rotation.

I like this a lot, Jim.  The center framing works very well with that reflection.  My only nit is that it might be difficult for people to tell where the canvas ends on this one with it so dark in the edges-perhaps just a slight lightening of the water and put it in a dead black matting and this would make an awesome print.

Hello, Jim
I like the position of the subject and love the light and dark tones in the image. It seems not 100% level to me, but that may be a tric of the eye enlightened. In any case an excellent result ! Cheers, Hans

Striking composition.  I would not change a thing.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful comments.  I agree it needs a slight clockwise rotation, which I didn't see until some of you pointed it out.  Thanks for that.  It seems some of you would prefer a crop off the bottom and I did take a look at that.  My conclusion is that I like it both ways.  I am very appreciative of everyone's interest and comments.

I love the mood this one has Jim. Other than that CW rotation, I wouldn't change a thing. The dark comp with the reflection works very well!  devil
