Pincushion Beard

I was fascinated by the amazing detail in these little pincushion cacti. With this closeup using a long zoom lens, I tried to capture the essence of the little old man's beard. Love to hear your thoughts.

 Canon 40D, f16, 1/1000sec, iso 400, -1 exp bias, 375 mm (100-400 ISL), handheld, 70% of original frame.

Ed ..the composition works very well here...and dealing with the whites is not easy and you have done a very good job. Fantastic details too.

Gotta see the large version of this one!  The even light produced just the right amount of contrast to accentuate the details.  Just those exquisite details would make a good image, but you the fact that you found an attractive (and kind of amusing) composition draws the viewer in from a distance, too.

I like the colors and detailed texture...it actually looks like it's soft, not prickly.  Also,I was surprised to see the Fibonacci sequence in the while wholes.  Very cool.blush
