Swallow Falls SP, MD

An isolated section of the Youghiogheny River as it winds it's way through Swallow Falls SP, MD. I was drawn to the undulations of the water as it passed over some rocks.

Thanks for taking a look and leaving a comment or suggestion.

The large white part is a bit too large for me, but the water looks very sweet! Just the right amount of detail ad softness. So my suggestion would be a crop form the top.

Ah, I've been to the Yough and Swallow Falls. Spent summers at Deep Creek Lake.

I like the sense of motion and the coolness of this.  I think that's snow at the top?  It adds some interest, but I agree with the Roel that it's a bit too dominant.  I can imagine a crop that just leaves a bit of it in the upper left corner by cropping just below the little hole in snow and losing the dark waveless part in the upper right corner above that.

Here is a crop as suggested by Roel and Marylynne. Thanks for your input.

The water is really nice, Ed, with beautiful color and textures. I see what Roel and Marylynne are saying about the snow, but I think I prefer the original over the cropped version.

Opinions are like (you know) everyone has one. I go for the crop, but without regard, the snow does add to the abstractness.

Ed,
Very nice image. The colors and textures in the water are very appealing. I too prefer the cropped version. I might also try to balance the "lights" a bit by burning in the snow and then dodging the water highlights.

Ed,

It's all about personal choice and vision.  For me, I see only the patterns and possibilities in the water and would exclude the detailess shoreline - but that' me.  I do think it works for context and story telling.  But for me, the story is in the water - the flow, waves, and also the submerged rock.

The crop is a step in the right direction.  I'm wondering if you have any where  you just captured the water?  That's the real interest for me.  But then, we're not all the same - (which is a good thing.)

Great title, Ed. I like this as it is but I also like the crop suggestions on this. If I was going to crop I think I would go a bit farther yet and crop to just below that dark area (hole) in the snow as Marylynne was thinking. I really enjoy the textures of the water here.

Here is another suggested crop version folks. I think this is getting closer to what some of you have suggested. Let me know what you think.

Lon: Unfortunately I do not have any comps with just the water. I was using the 80-200 and it was zoomed out to 200.

Hi  Edcrying   For sure  !  the  water  patterns are so  strong and beautiful. that  they can exist  alone.  the  snow  adds an other  fine element to the scene.     but  the wonderful   form  and  color  of the  last  version,  to me is the winner

Ed, I'm really enjoying the shapes and textures in the lower 2/3rds.  The overall brightness up top grabs too much attention.  I'm wondering if you can pull some detail out of that ice.  I think that would let it contribute without dominating.  The crop is an improvement, but the brightness of the ice is still very strong.  The 2nd repost does a good job of emphasizing the water and movement, but that rock and the flow over it are a big part of what I like in the original image.
