Towards the Sun

I found this one from last year before the cold came on and I took a short break from photography. A pretty standard shot but I was drawn to the foreground at this location.

I can see why you were drawn to the foreground, rocks like that are always interesting! I do think they could use some dodging to make them more obvious, as well as the clouds and sea on the right side. I think this would be really nice with the brightness in the photo a bit more balanced. It is a wonderful sunset after all, with a very nice sky.

I probably would have put the rock in the middle - but this is better because you get the sunbeam to the bottom of the frame.  I'll remember that.

Very nice scene Mark!  I like the photo a lot.

I know it is subjective but the weight distribution of the left and right sides would temp me to reduce highlights on the left side a bit more.  Not HDR (because of its inherent artifacting) but bringing the left and right just a little more into balance. Two layers in PS using Smart Objects, and the highlights masked (to bring in more detail there), would likely do the trick.  Just my 2 cents.

It's a fine looking sunset, Mark.  I like the balance that you've created between the rocks and the sun.  It looks like a beautiful evening.  I think Mark M's idea of a better brightness balance across the frame would look good.

Mark,

At first I was unsure about the balance with the foreground, but then I realize you chose this to include the long reflection of golden light in the water.  I think Mark M. might be on to something, but overall I think this is crafted nicely.  I've always found that it's difficult to find balance along the sea shore.

A quiet and peaceful seascape.

This is a beautiful peaceful capture of the sunrise/sunset along a coast. I really enjoy images like this one because they do not evoke to much thought, but rather ease the mind into relaxation. I like the idea of trying to slightly balance out the highlights and with the darker tones for slightly more balance, but this is sweet as is Mark.
