Pushing my hand holding limits with this image of a male downy.  Didn't mean to use 3200, but this turned out to be one of the sharper frames.

Canon SL1
1/640 @ F-9 ISO 3200
Sigma 120-400 OS @ 400mm HH

A nice subject in pleasing soft light. But too much noise for me in the larger version, and not sharp enough on the head.

You should be able to overcome camera motion even with 400mm at that shutter speed with some practice. And I always take a rapid sequence whewn I'm on the edfge like this to give a better chance of getting a sharp image in the sequence.

The smaller image looks pretty good, John, though the detail in the larger is pretty rough.  I suspect the SL1 isn't really good at that kind of iso-it pretty much takes a high end full frame sensor to handle that very well.  Nice image of the downy in very typical habitat.
