Leafy Abstract II

A different section of the same tree as last time.  I tried rotating this to a horizontal to take advantage of the shape of our monitors, but it just doesn't look right to me.  What ever happened to those monitors that you could rotate, anyhow?

As a side note, if you ever get to Oahu, this little park is worth a visit.  The light was wrong to photograph it, but under this tree they had taken a large branch that had been pruned at some time and was shaped such that three points touched the ground.  Someone had lovingly finished it to form an exquisite bench about 30 feet long with several different seating areas.

5D3, 28-70 mm f/2.8 L @ 68 mm, hand held, f/16, 1/80, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Full frame.  After my last post, I went back and burned a couple of bright spots a bit.

Thanks for looking and commenting-I really appreciate your feedback.

Dennis: Hard for me to choose between this and the first. The thick trunk in the LLC is the only part that I have some question about. Again, viewing the larger version is a must. Well done.>=))>

Very interesting to see those trees separated so uniformly. I like this one, but the tree in the LLC is a bit distracting, so I think I prefer your previous version over this one. Thanks for sharing this phenomenon!

Much prefer the horizontal version.  As said, the trunk makes the left side heavy and also the open spaces of the blue sky competes with the design of the branches (at least in the thumbnail... not so much in the large version).  Regardless, quite a impressive tree, both in size and flow of the branches.

I'll join the majority—horizontal for me. One thing I do like about this over the other is the clearly defined space between crowns, illustrating the competition for sunlight.cool

This reminds me of one of those puzzles where you have to trace you way through the maze without reaching a dead end.  Well seen.

Now THAT is cool, Dennis!  Wonderfully seen.  I love the abstract qualities of the shot.

Very nice abstract!  I prefer this version.  I like the blue lines of sky between the sections of the tree.

Hi Dennis, I prefer this shot as well - not easy to get a 'trunk free' shot I am sure. and the complete blue 'distorted oval' is of course the main attraction in the composition. Not sure whether a 16:9 vertical cut would help here but otherwise i would be tempted to move the 'oval' to the left with a cut bottom and left (which would reduce the trunk significantly) There is enough 'weight' from the dark tree on the right then to counterbalance the composition ... worth a thought anyway ...
Cheers, Mark
