I'm still chasing these cute raptors. They are difficult to approach, but I am having some success. Processed using Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC 2014 along with Light Crafts Lightzone.. Comments and critiques welcome.

About as good as it gets this side of captive shots! I have chased these little guys for years and never gotten close enough. How did you do it?devil

I found a straight stretch of two lane road that runs through some cattle ranch country that seems to have quite a few of these little guys. There are a line of trees on one side of the road where they like to perch. Most of the images I've been able to capture I have done so by hanging out the window firing away as I drive by. Luckily, this is a very deserted, straight road where I can see for a long way to make sure there is no traffic. If I continue to do this, perhaps after awhile, they will be tolerant enough to let me stop.

Hi Jerry,

Well done-- they  only appear up close when the camera is tucked away. Comp and lighting are quite good for a drive-by photo...........................Jim

I agree these guys are spooky.  Very nice composition, pose, and light.  The stick across the tail in unfortunate, but not much you could do about that.

Your perseverance is paying off.  Another nice Kestrel shot.  Nice color and detail and I like the head turn showing the beak.
