OK, I guess two species in a frame probably isn't the best example of "Florida Biodiversity," but every time I'm in Florida photographing birds I am simply in awe of the plethora of birdlife there.
I was photographing a pair of nesting Great Blue Herons atop their palm when I spotted this cormorant coming in to perch and dry off. The scene was a little close/tight for the 500mm but I managed to get the cormorant framed up and in focus while intentionally leaving the mother heron in a supporting role. If I had had an extra second, I would have increased my aperture (and likely ISO), but it unfolded rather quickly so I was pleased with capturing the moment and the story...which for me is always "which bird do I even focus on?" when I'm there.
As always, thanks for your time, comments, critiques and suggestions! Please view the larger version for best quality!
