Woody

A common subject but good for practice. I'm really trying to improve both my skills at capturing and processing so comments are really appreciated.
Taken at the Candelaria wetlands here in Albuquerque. Nikon D810, 500mm, 1/1600, f/6.3, ISO 560.

Sharron:

The details and processing on the Wood Duck look pretty good.  It is a bit tight in the frame for my tastes.

Beautiful color and reflection!  I do agree, that it would have been nice to have more of his ripple trail in the photo and maybe a bit more in front.  You might want to clone out the dark smudge next to the frame,  just below the reflection of his head

The colors on this bird look very nice Sharron.  Its upper rear half looks a bit dark.  Maybe that can be brightened a little.  I agree it would be nice if this bird had a little room in front to swim in to.  Overall, beautiful image.

It may be a common subject, but it's not an easy one with all that contrast, Sharron.  Nicely exposed and the tightness has been mentioned.  A very nice low angle with interesting reflections in the water contribute nicely to this image.

I think you've mastered both capture and processing in this image. As notes, it is rather tight, and I'd prefer a bit more space shown all around. The only other issue is the lack of detail in the darkest feathers on the back and rump. A bit of fill flash might have allowed you to show detail there while keeping the whitres from blowing out.

Wow, you really captured the iridescence on the head.  Not a lot of detail in the whites, but that may be my monitor.  I like tight crops, so this looks fine to me.  Consider cloning out the second catchlight in the eye?  Personal choice.  Thanks for posting, Dave
