With apologies to David.  Sorry to be so late to the Malheur postings.  Here's one from this past spring.  I didn't encounter any great numbers, but did have some very nice light with one pair for just a few minutes before they flew.  This one was just starting to think about leaving.

7D2, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, beanbag on truck window, f/8, 1/640, iso 500, aperture priority, center-weighted average metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 11.3 MP, taken March 20, 2015 at 6:18 AM near the Buena Vista ponds.

It sounds like things are resolving themselves at the refuge and hopefully it will return to normal very soon.

Thanks for looking,

Another nice sandhill image from Malheur.  Nicely exposed.  Did you get him as he took off?

Beautiful light on this image.  It does seem to be thinking about something.  I didn't see any flying; they were all eating.

Dave B. asked if I got the takeoff.  I did, but it took off away from me so I didn't bother processing any of them.

Interesting pose Dennis. Great light and the color palettes warm tones are very complimentary to the image. I would love to go there sometime. Well done!
