Back with another favourite subject from the summer, a spectacular German Shorthaired Pointer named Payton. We ended up doing two separate shoots with Payton, and I can tell you he is some kind of an athlete and a remarkably focused and intense (in a good way) dog.
I'm used to having to clone leads out of dog pictures, but when you have a dog this well trained and utterly statuesque when not in motion, I had to take the opportunity to do some off-leash stuff down by the river as the last sliver of sunlight faded slipped behind the western hills. If it weren't for the mosquitoes, I could have photographed this dog in this setting forever.

I knew the owners were hoping for a very large art print so chose to keep the ISO down to base whenever I could...I probably could have taken a 20sec exposure of this dog when he locked in on something.
Thanks for your time...please view the detail version if you have a moment.

10 commentsThe melding of the OOF foreground and backgrounds, isolating and encircling the subject, really make this one special.
Your sense of time and place for these working dogs is top notch. Added to your processing prowess and magazine cover compositions, I'm sure you are sought out for field trials in your area. Outstanding in your field (or stream), as they say.
Well Done!
Thanks again for your kind words.
