March 2016 GOTM

During the slow warm up after some cold (for the mid-Atlantic USA) temps, I looked out the window and noticed some wild lines zig-zagging across my backyard pond. Grabbing my camera (of course) and going out to investigate revealed a mixture of ice and water with ridges of ice surrounding pools of water. The leaves are mostly from the hardy water lilies plus the single oak leaf. This is a 7 shot stack for top to bottom sharpness. (5D3, 180mm macro, 0.3s, f/16, iso 200, tripod and polarizer, with the polarizer rotated to maximize the reflections)

This simply fantastic! Awesome detail and crispness throughout. And the blackness of this also makes this somewhat unique. We often see other colors, either as a result of what's beneath the ice, or what's reflected on it. It's almost like a b&w, with just the leaves colored in. Regardless, this is beautifully successful!

Looks good with warm color scheme, detailed lines in the ice and off center comp. Very choice image
Nicely done!

And I think that detail and strenght are the same also at greater dimensions.
all the best,

I think it works especially well with the mixture of ice and water as against one or the other entirely. Seems to really fit this scene nicely. The pads and the singular leaf compliment each other.
I could buy in on the idea of cloning / CA out the branch poking up, but not a deal breaker at all, just subjective thinking there.....
Fantastic and unique image. Love the color palatte, textures and patterns. Great work!
This is such a great image in many ways. I love how stark the contrast is between the colors of the lilies and leaf and how they work with the darkness of the pond. Then, you include the ice patterns, and the overall detail quality of this image and you have some fantastic work in photography.
