Frosted Lipstick

From the common name of "Lipstick Lichen" for these.  This is a small section of the fence post of my last post at pretty close to minimum focal distance.

5D3, 180mm f/3.5 macro, tripod and cable release, f/32, 0.8 sec, iso 200, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Slight crop for composition.  Taken at 9:02 on January 3rd.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Yeey, lichens! Lichens are ridiculously underrated I think, but once you start to look at them they are so beautiful. This cladonia is no exception, and I like the frost on som of them as well.

Pretty cool Dennis. I rarely run into these lichens and they offer some brilliant colors to the eye.  It is fairly sharp, but you are at the limits of the rules of physics with limited DOF and some diffraction at f32 and near life size image.  I would try stacking images taken at f16   instead of at f32.  Other than that, I like the image as it is very colorful and has an abstract composition to it.........Jim

You are taking a licking when your liking of lichens is lacking without stacking!sad Colorful and different, but I agree with Jim. May I recommend Zerene Stacker? Not particularly expensive, works well and fast and you only pay for it once. Also the updates are free!

What a great catch, Dennis! I don't recall ever coming across this sort of lichen - what a beauty! Is the red tip the fungus and the rest the algae? Clearly a challenge, but I think that you got good detail on the red tips, and a reasonbly detailed background.
