Afghan Hounds

Beside landscape photography I started photographing sighthounds in the last two to three years. It all started when we got our first afghan hound about three years ago. That is when I fell in love with those dogs. So good year later we got our second afghan. Since we are going on a race track on regular basis (just for fun) and because our two crazy afghans love it. So I became a sighthound photographer more and more.....but that's just for fun.
So here's my first post in this gallery. This is our older afghan Cizillia du Persia Chanaz Khan during the lure coursing championship this past september in switzerland. One can see that she really enjoys running.

Hi Bill,

Lovely action shot.  The highlight areas of the hair could be turned down a bit, but might be a result of a small image size.  I like the pose and the screen over the muzzle which resembles a hockey player's goalie mask which in this case prevents the hound from wiping out the lure.  Your dog appears to be having a lot of fun!  Jenny ran Havoc our Berner on a coursing track and he did very well for a working dog.  He's fast, but not like your Afghans which can fly..........................Jim

Roland,

one of the things I like about the image is that it shows the fun that your Afghan Honud has. The colors look also very vivid emphazing that fun, as well the "flying" hair of the dog.

From composition point of view it would have been great if she would be facing her head more towards the viewer which could be managed by getting a more frontal aproach while photographing, or a slight diagonal placement of the subject.

Technically the image looks fine from the sharpness and the exposure as far as I can see on my monitor is fine as well.

What a beauty, and it sure looks like she is having plenty of fun racing around!

Having a beloved canine family member(s) enriches our lives so much.  It's one thing to simply "own a dog" but someting entirely different to love them and treat them as a family member, and spending recreational time with them.  She is one very lucky dog!

Great action in this photo, Bill. The streaming hair and ears really show the speed and movement of your hound (who's name I can't pronounce), and the smile on her face tells the rest of the story. Nicely set against the green background also.
