And here's...PONCHO!
On my last post (the first one EVER in the Man & Fauna Gallery!) I introduced you to my older Portuguese Water Dog (Jose). Well...this is Poncho - and he's also a Portie but totally different in colour and in disposition. Whenever we have them together everyone assumes that the "quiet, laid back one" (Poncho) is way older than Jose, who despite his 11 years is STILL as active as a puppy. Poncho is 6, going on 60 (he never turns down any opportunity to nap!)
I mentioned in my previous post that I often use my dogs as practice and gear-testing subjects. In this case I was testing the AF performance of Nikon's "newish" 200-500mm f5.6 lens (near the long-end of the focal length). Poncho likes "camera game" as much as Jose does, but is often a really tricky subject to photograph (his dark patches on his face are SO dark, and some of his white is SO white!).
Subject: Poncho the laid-back Portie
Location: My property in SE BC
Camera: Nikon D4s
Lens: Nikkor 200-500mm f5.6 VR @ 480mm - hand-held with VR on (in "Sport" mode).
Exposure: 1/2000s @ f6.3; ISO 1400. No compensation from matrix-metered exposure setting.
Crop: None - this is full frame...
Comments and critiques welcomed - probably best to view the larger version prior to doing so!
Cheers...
Brad

7 commentsI think I will need also some actors for me to make some "action photos". This one I even like better then the first post since Poncho is so nicely isolated from the backgrounds and surroundings. That ensures a direct view to the main subject which I consider as very important. Technically also very nice and this picture shows me that I will have to move to an 100-400 with image stabilizator to be able to be more flexible when making action images.
