Goldencrowned Sparrow II

If I recall correctly, this is the same bird that just flew to a different perch.  While it lacks direct eye contact, I really liked this pose and the bg.  I deliberately left the branch tip in the ULC because that's where the bird's attention was focused.

7D2, Sigma 150-600C @ 562mm, hand held braced against blind wall,  f/8, 1/80 sec, iso 1250, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 14 Mpixels.  Taken December 16th at 9:27 am.

I appreciate your comments on the first golden-crowned post and look forward to your input on this one.

Thanks,

Hi Dennis, sweet subject and I like the catchlight in the eye. I might suggest a pano 16x9 (10) from the foot up, as it reduces a lot of dead space above and the blue patch, which then retains the continuity of the 'killer' BKG. It may then alsco crop the branch on the LHS which I also feel doesn't add much and provides more focus on the main subject. Dropping the blue (althought the highlight running along the branch does convey that wet/damp look) and just opening the image up in the Exposure module so the Darks/Shadows aren't so prominant may help, just a thought Dennis?

At this size it looks sharp, but at 1/80 how sharp is the RAW?

Dennis,

technically very good as well, but I have to say that the intimate mood of the previous post is missing here. My crop suggestion would be a 4:5 which in my opinion would fit good to the pose.

A nice capture and pose, Dennis. If it were mine, I'd crop a bit tighter – it looks like you have the pixels – and make the bird a bit bigger in the frame.
