Golden-crowned Sparrow
by Dennis Plank
Another from my session in the blind the other day. These come in for the dove mix in the ground feeder. Quite the opposite of the Juncos, they ave very shy and difficult to photograph without a blind or something similar. This one was actually nice enough to perch up in the branches of a fir above the feeding area. Normally they come in low and inconspicuously. I liked the framing provided by the fir needles on the left and the arcing twigs coming off the perch on either side of the bird.
7D2, Sigma 150-600C @ 562mm, hand held braced against blind wall, f/8, 1/50, iso 1250, aperture priority, pattern metering. Processed in LR5 & CS6. Cropped to 14.4 Mpixels. Taken December 16th at 9:27 am.
I appreciate your comments on the Junco and look forward to your input on this image.

6 commentsvery nice all over. As you I like the fir needles framing the bird, as well the mood with the water drops on the perch. Technically you made a good job under the given conditions.
This image says Pacific Northwest with water drops and overall soft lighting from cloudy conditions. Subject is nice and sharp with a killer BG. Nicely done............................Jim
I just came across this one and not sure how I missed it before,
Excellent image in all respects,
Well done . . .
