Conformity

Thanks everyone for your comments and observations on my reflection image.

So now if you'll indulge me, I'd like to return to more grass.  Can't have enough grass ya know.  You may recognize this one as it's the same area as one my previous grass images.  I recall someone mentioning several alternative crops within that last image. It's the one called "Diversity" I think.  Very observant whoever said that.  I felt the same way at the time - I was so engaged in this patch of grasses I had found I worked it from different angles and comps.  So this one is not a crop from another image, this one is basically full frame of a whole new composition.  I chose this one not for the variety of different grasses and colors, but more for the consistency, or conformity.  My only regret is not having placed the lone vertical grass head more towards the dark area.  But anyway, I thought conformity now because of how virtually every stalk of grass is leaning, bending, curving all in the same direction. Very interesting, why is it not more random?  The wind?  Just makes me curious.

Enough, always too much info Lon.... just let the image speak for goodness sake.  Your comments, critiques always welcome.

I think that you were rolling around from left to right on this patch of grass for an hour or two in order to achieve this "conformity" before you took the photographs.

sad

Nothing really to improve upon here ... a fine image.

I love the golden, lacey nature of the grasses here Lon.  The repeating pattern of the grasses, especially on the right side of the image, makes this work for me.  It adds some order to chaos.  Lovely golden color too.

Lon, I really enjoy your studies on textures a lot. This one shows delightful subtlety to me as well as consistent composition and processing.

My first thought was the same as yours, I would have liked to see the lone grass a bit higher to separate it some more from the rest. But that's a small nit, this is nice as usual!

The color in this is very inviting, Lon.  Then you've got all of the arches of grass scattered nicely throughout the frame.  That extra frosty plant and the dark area near by make an amazing subtle but valuable focal point.

Its single vineyard Yosemite appelation grass.  This is fine without all the other added stuff.  It stands out on it own with repetitive golden curves and dendritic terminus properly placed within the frame. It was even taken with the appropriate glass.  But was it a good vintage?

You guys came away with plenty of beautiful scenes that are so often overlooked because sometimes we as photographers get to hung up on capturing that grand landscape; my self included. I really like the earth tones and the graceful curved lines of the grasses along with the diagonal flow of this image, Lon. Great stuff.

This works very nicely for me, Lon. I love the warmth and all the gentle curves. I am wondering if the bright lights could be brought up just a wee bit. Overall, the contrast and color look very good.

Well, Lon, you, Preton, and Harley gotta be a great crew to shoot with.  Let's see, you're stuck in a patch of grass,  Preston's into the ice, and Harley's in the reeds.  I quess you have to let the tourist have something to shoot.  You are the master of the grass.  Very enjoyable.

Hi Lon,

The flow of the grasses is a wonderful aspect of this scene, and there is such a quiet delicate nature to this image I rather enjoy. I am going back and forth with playing around with the darks and lights in the luminosity masks to bring out a bit more in the grasses. Maybe it is me, but i think just a tad bit tweaked with the maybe shadow darks and bright lights could bring out a bit more in the grasses .On the same lines of Preston.s thoughts, but with some tweaks to the shadows as well.

small stuff in regards to a really beautiful image. devil

Great detail and beautiful curved lines drawn from the grass. I think the image seen from a certain distance from the screen goes truly immersive.

Lots to like here, Lon.  I look for marsh grasses in my area, and once in a while they work.  I like the warm golden tones in this.
