Into the Wild

Gallery: Man & NaturePosted December 8, 2015203 views10 comments

I couldn't come up with a better title, so I borrowed the title from the 2007 movie by the same name.  It summed up my trek in the Icelandic Highlands this past July.  A big winter and a cold spring left huge expanses of snow and a much more wild experience.  Thermal vents left pockets of green mosses, precarious snow bridges and bubbling steam brooks.  I kept a safe distance away from this backpacker so as not to be accused of stalking, while still being close enough to include her into shots for the purpose of scale and a human element.

Another great Man & Nature shot, this one still better than the previous, which was a really good image.

Last summer we camped near the 'into the Wild' area. The bus is still there and you can hike to it by following that dirt road.

Your previous hiker shot was a bit more otherworldly, while this one is more realistic so to speak. I like this one as well, the trail ahead of the hiker and the mist in the distance is very nice.

Great shot Harry. I think that without the hiker the image would be a bit confusing at first. I really love the way the trail leads my eye into the beautiful background layers.devil

I like the colors and the zigzag lines in the image. The steam adds much beauty. Wonderful work!

Nicely done.  The trail leads your eye right into the image.

Wonderful.  I love the gentle curves of the topography contrasting with the switchbacks cut by a skier.  The lone traveler moving toward a steaming crevasse just makes it perfect.  It really does provide a sense of scale, and the only thing that reduces the wildness is the tracks indicating someone has come and gone before her.  Nonetheless, I like this a lot.

Harry,
I love this shot.  The backpacker definitely adds to the story and interest.  I feel like I am there with you.

Definitely a special composition, Harry. Really wonderfully put together. Great lines and elements and the sense of scale is off the charts. Kudos!
