This is a scan of an old Ektachrome slide taken at Monte Verde Costa Rica in 1985.  My major professor lent me his old Minolta flash and with some old wire found along a trail, I wired the flash to fit my Pentax ME Super.  My parents also gave me a 50mm Pentax manual lens to use for the trip which was used for this shot..  The frog is Agalychnis annae which is now listed as an endangered species.  Crop for comp generated during scan, Topaz Detail, sharpening, reduction in green saturation, rubber stamp tool to remove some hot spots from the flash.  The JPG looks oversaturated so I'll need to reduce overall saturation slightly. .....................Jim

Here's a less saturated version.  I toned down the greens with an adjustment Hue/Saturation layer before saving as a jpeg.....Jim

Jim,

I have to like this since I grew up in Costa Rica. The colors of these guys are somehow incredible and the image shows this very nicely. Actually I like the bit saturated image more because it lets the colors stand out much stronger. I may crop a bit from the top to let it look more panoramic. I feel that that would emphasizes the pose and attention to the frog better.

I have scanned several tousands of my slides and know that it is a very time consuming thing. Practically all of my scans need a bit of retouch in the contrast which I like to handle with Photoshop curves. Usually increasing the brightness a bit and darkening the darker area helps. You may try it on this one since I have the feeling that it is a bit low in contrast.

Jim, I think you eye was spot on in deciding to reduce the green saturation.  The repost looks much more natural.  Great subject!
