Dawn Tree Farm II

A couple of people commented on all the ice in the foreground, so I removed most of it in this different angle.  The Black Hills (not the Dakota ones) in the background are part of the Capitol State Forest and are actively logged.  You can see the evidences of it in several places there the trees just end along the ridgeline or where there are just a few left standing.  I thought it made a good juxtoposition with the young trees in the foreground.  There's a state nursery run much the same way a few miles up the road that supplies trees for the Capitol Forest.

5D3, Canon 28-70mm f/2.8 L at 70mm, tripod (or I should say bipod in this case since I was right against a fence with a deep ditch behind me and nowhere to place the third leg), f/16, 1/60, iso 400 aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  To get rid of the foreground, I ended up cropping this pretty significantly in the vertical direction, though it was still over 4500 pixels wide before resizing.  Taken November 17th, 2014 at 7:35 am at the Weyerhauser Corporation's Mima Tree Farm.

I appreciate all the comments on my previous post and would be interested in knowing if you think this is a more effective presentation.  Hopefully we'll get another cold spell this winter and I can go out and give this another try.

Thanks,

Of the three nusery shots, this is my second favorite.  I like the tidy graphical quality of the Tree Nursery at Dawn image.  Its colors are interesting as well.  This one has a lot more going on in it, and the big file is especially interesting, but for me, it's one of those cases where less is more.
