Spring in the Swamp

This is an image I shot about ten years ago from a boardwalk in Northshore Nature Center in Mandeville.  Conventional wisdom might suggest that a 50/50 split of horizon isn't the best, but I liked the generous inclusion of the FG because of the pollen and the reflectons of the trees.

Bill,

Interesting you mention the 50/50 comp - I don't get that sense at all.  Yes, I can see that the water occupies about half, but it just doesn't feel like a split image to me.

I love the partial reflections set off by the pollen on the surface; it gives the water a unique look.  All the greenery of the forest intermixed with some color/tone of the tree trunks is just all gelling together.  An excellent sense of depth as well as the eye can travel deeper in to the scene.

Beautifully seen! Well done.  Processing spot on as well.

Beautiful, Bill! Like Lon, I don't see the 50/50 split as an issue. My only nit, and a minor one, is the light-toned branch on the right side; it's kind of an eye grabber. I love the color andthe reflections of the trees add a fine touch. Well done!

This is outstanding Bill.  Love the soft light and reflection.  Like Preston, I think it would be worth burning the light colored limbs both right and left.  I love this one.

I like the composition, Bill.  I agree that the 50/50 split works well here.  I often struggle with finding order in the chaos of these kind of scenes so I applaud your eye for seeing this.  Nicely done!

Cool study in green!  I am with Lon, I don't get a sense of a horizon split here.  Great detail and a great deal to enjoy. I like this a lot.

I like it. The water/fg balance works very well. The 50/50 split is only partial, anyway because the water gets more space towards the top in the left half.

Looks almost like a fantasy place with all those greens! Great take on this environment, very inviting image. The 50/50 is no problem for me at all. The pollens patterns create enough interesting detail, and the tree reflections are indeed nice too.

I don't find the 50/50 split to be an issue. It sure didn't feel like it until you mentioned it.
I agree about the right hand intruding branch. Definitely and eye grabber.

Hi  Bill crying      Agree  with the others about the 50/50 split.   i too dont sense it at all.   i find  this is an acceptional  composition of the swamp, it's  refletions, and    beautiful   green surroundings

Love all the subtle greens and the reflections here, Bill.  The swirls in the water and the increasing density of the matter floating on the surface create a fine sense of depth.  I think your 50:50 split works very well here.  When I scroll down to hide the bottom, the image seems tight.
