I had been concentrating on composing some bigtooth maple microcosms with limited success for about 45 minutes fairly late in the afternoon when I turned around and realized that I had been missing the main event.

Beautiful mix of colors and textural elements.  The shadows, especially on the ride side and on the stone hill seem a little too bright.  I might try selectively darkening if possible and maby giving them a cooler color cast.  This might add a little depth to those areas.  The view looks familiar to me from my brief visits to the area.  Could this be north of the tunnel, visible from the road on the right as you head north?  Makes me wish I was out there now instead of a a dreary Nov. out east!

You are making some very nice images in Zion this fall, Jim.  Love the colors and the sky is sweet.  No nits from me....luv it.

Thanks for the comments.  Harry, I did do a minor shadows adjustment when processing this image.  I'm using my notebook computer while I'm here.  Of course, I review the processing of the images on my desktop computer with a better calibrated monitor after I get home before making any prints.  I'll take your suggestion into consideration.  I think that the softer shadows are possibly more the result of the filtered light due to the clouds ... not the deeper shadows typical with a clear Utah blue sky.  The tunnel and the road (Route 9) are oriented more east/west, although the road does twist and turn.  The location of this scene is near the road in the eastern region of the park, but well past the tunnel.

This is a beauty, Jim.  The warm tones in the land and trees are set off well by the coolness of the sky and the shadows add some extra texture.  I too have learned (and remember it occasionally....) that watching all four directions can be valuable.
