Ephemeral Oasis

Although it is no doubt a somewhat more common occurrence during the summer, I personally have never experienced the (normally) dry washes in the eastern region of Zion in autumn with such an abundance of water as is the case at this time.  Numerous photographic opportunities are being presented that I have never encountered here previously.  This composition is representative of current conditions.  I have passed through this particular location innumerable times over the years, and have never witnessed it like this.

Dynamic composition, Jim, and a loverly overall tonality, with the sprinkling of yellow leaves an especially nice touch.  There's a sense almost of the earth in motion !

Jim, I like how all of the lines in the sand and the stones seem to converge in the upper left.  The wash of yellow leaves at the top provides some fine complementary color.  The larger version has an outstanding sense of presence.

I also like the tonality and composition of the image.

Hi Jim,

A very nice view of the Zion back country with some wonderful fall yellows. The composition has a nice energy about it, and the lines of the sand and sandstone flow nicely to the fall colors above.
