Another Sea Lion swallowing a spawning salmon at Valdez, Alaska.  This one was taken a day later than the previous post. I like this one because you can see the eye of the salmon and it has lots of mouth details although any dentists viewers might not be quite so impressed ;-)

Sony ILCE-6000, FE 70-200 F4 G @ 121 mm (181 mm equiv.), ISO-250, f/6.3, 1/1000, handheld.

Another great action shot of a Sea Lion capturing salmon.  I think I like this one a little better than the first.

Very cool image Gary. Before I opened the thumbnail, it almost looked like a dog swimming with a training retriever dummy. Love the eye and those teeth are awesome. Nice timing.

Wonderful action! I agree with you, it’s cool to see the eye of the salmon and the teeth of the Sea Lion. Excellent!

This is powerful in both a graphic and documentary sense.  No nits.  In terms of artistic presentation, however,  I prefer the earlier post because of the lower to the water perspective.

Hi Gary,

Another interesting sea lion shot - well done! I think I like the previous version a little more - to me this one carries the perspective of looking "down" on the subject more than the previous one (could just be the angle of the sea lion's head). Looks like you had a lot of fun with these guys!

Cheers...

Brad; you're right that this one was taken from a steeper angle.  I was actually at the same elevation but this sea lion was quite a bit closer (notice that the previous one was taken at 200mm and this one at 121mm.)  About the only way I would have been able to get a lower angle would have been to climb into the water with him.  Generally, that's not considered to be a very good idea!
