I've just returned home after finishing up with two incredible weeks of photo tours in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. I decided to stick around for a few more days after my last tour ended to meet up with a friend for some shooting. We ended up at Grand Prismatic Spring, in the Midway Geyser Basin in Yellowstone, watching the Draconid Meteor Shower and getting a brief glimpse at the northern lights. I took this image after the auroras faded. The green in the sky here is actually caused by another weather phenomenon called "airglow". Some subtle light painting was used to add light to the foreground.

Thanks for looking and for any comments!

Techs:
4 exposures blended for DOF @ f/2.8, 30 Seconds, ISO 2000

This has an other worldly, unique feel that is just wonderful. The colors and comp are fantastic, just couldn't be better. Whether the stars are sharp pin points or not seems to be a matter of personal preference. I look forward to the aurora photos to come.

Hi Zack,
Nice to see Orion in the airglow here.  Having only been to Yellowstone once many years ago, I don't know what that foreground is, but I LIKE IT!  Your composition and light painting did a great job creating leading lines

This foreground is incredible! I like how you were able to get the highlights out of it. I would probably try brightening that fog off in the horizon so it's more visible.

Love this.  They symmetry is a visual feast, but that foreground is the real draw.  Very strong image.

Lo ve the streaking FG, great spot for a night shot.  The symettry and night sky really give a peaceful feel to the image.

I like this very much especially with the strong airglow. The top half seems out of focus which distracts me a bit. Might be able to apply the shake reduction sharpen feature in PS to effect.
