I am currently in London to attend the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards tonight.

The reason? This image!

It has been awarded as "finalist" (the old "highly commended") in the B&W category. It is also the cover image of this year's coffee table book!

Captured from a remote research hide in Etosha.

Big Congrats Morkel !!! Getting a Porfolio cover is very prestigeous!
Just saw it on their website. I'm just wondering, how could you manage to arrange so many animals in the frame!?!

Morkel, congrats! It's easy to see why this would be picked. It's fantastic! The arrangement of animals is perfect, the water dripping from the elephant's trunk adds to it, and the frame through the elephant legs takes it to new levels! Great work!

Very nice shot, Morkel, and many many congratulations on this award. I wish they'd kept the 'Highly Commended' as 'finalist' reminds me of the old WPOTY days when they still had a couple of thousand 'finalists' from which the highly commended and 1st prize winners were eventually chosen. Anyway, that was the past, this is now and this is a fantastic achievement! Go for it again next year with your jumping wildebeest! cool
