I really liked the setting of this image with the Douglas fir needles framing andpartly obscuring the bird and sunlight on the bird and the trunk of the Madrone.

7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, Jobu Gimbal on RRS legs, f/10, 1/1000, iso 500, Manual exposure, pattern metering. Processed in LR5 + CS6.  Didn't do much except a touch of sharpening and vibrance on the Heron.  Full frame.  Taken at 7:30 am, July 1st at Big Beef Creek on Hood Canal, Washington.

I appreciate your comments on the Towhee and look forward to your input on this image.

Thanks,

I like the lighting and how the heron is framed by the branches.  The red in the Madrone is nice as well.

Good detail on the GBH. I like the framing from the Doug Fir. I like the Pacific Madrone also, but less of it might be better. If this were mine, I would crop out the bright branches on the right. Otherwise excellent!devil

Agree that the framing adds a lot to the image, and the bird is well positioned IMO. Cheers, Hans

Hey Dennis,
Fantastic pose in a beautiful environment with very nice feather detail in the Heron. I agree with Phil and if it were mine, might try a square format to move the subject more towards the center by cropping all off the right side. Just a thought from a crazy old man !
Well done . . .  devil
