Female Green-winged Teal, I believe. Taken at the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center in Port Aransas, Texas back in February. She was just finishing up a bathing session and I managed to catch a sequence of her rising out of the water to shake off.
7Dii, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4TC, monopod, 1/2000, f/8, iso 320, aperture priority, center weighted average metering, -1/3 stop compensation. Processed in LR5 & CS6. I cropped this from a horizontal original and added a bit of canvas to the top while taking a bit off the bottom. The original had the tip of the highest feather just touching the top of the frame. I also took some of hte bg from the right side of hte original to clone over an oof Coot in the bg of the left side. The light was very flat for this and I had trouble getting the duck to pop from the bg. Interestingly what finally seemed to work (at least to my eye) was warming the overall color temperature just a trifle. Taken at 11:16 am under cloudy skies on February 20th.
I appreciate all your comments on the Thrasher (I think I will recrop it),and look forward to your input on this image.
Thanks,

7 commentsWonderful flight shot Dennis. Perfect exposure and love that shutter speed with a bit of wing movement increasing to the tips, indicating motion in a very effective way. Good catch!
Dennis,
This a remarkable capture of the "moment"
Good job of processing and stopping the action. I believe I would lighten the eye just a bit if this were mine.
Great title for this shot Dennis ! Love the vertical frame. Well done, Cheers, Hans
Nice capture of this action shot Dennis. My first thought was that it needed more room on top. Then I read that you added some canvas to the top already. Processing is well done and it is a very cool shot. Great title!
Great body and wing positions you captured here Dennis
I have seen shorebirds do this type of thing after a preening session many times, but never a duck.
Sweet One!
Very cool action Dennis. I love the wing position. Well done.
