Another look at the Red-striped Ribbon Snake, this time on land. I noticed the mouth 'stretching' behavior before, this is the first time I've been able to document it. This was two days after the same snake downed an adult Leopard Frog, he's trimmed down nicely since then
You can see that one in the Macro gallery if you're interested..

6 commentsHoward: that is an interesting behavior. Any ideas as to the reason for the behavior? Richard
Another nice shot of this bright little snake Howard. Interesting documentaiton of this behavior with nice detail in the scales and coloration. I like.
Nice composition, getting the visible portion of the snake in focus. The open mouth pose adds interest to the image. Light is not bad at all for a mid day shot.
Well captured. The snake contrasts nicely from the rock. Good color and light.
Hi Howard,
Interesting behaviour that you've documented well. Tough subject to work with from a compositional perspective...so...well done!
Cheers...
Brad
Very cool with the open mouth Howard, great depth of field on this one.
